BALLET

A dance of keeping yourself aligned, which refers to keeping the head, shoulders, and hips vertically aligned and you can learn it the best at no other than Z4 Dancing Network. Turnout refers to completing movements with legs rotated outward; this promotes clean footwork, graceful port de bras(movement of the arms), and correct body positions, lines and angles. Other aspects of ballet technique include posture, toe pointing, keeping shoulders down, and pulling up, which combine proper posture and lifting of the muscles to increase turnout and enhance alignment and thus improve the quality of turns. Ballet technique is also used to exhibit ballon, the appearance of gravity-defying lightness, during leaps. Pointe technique is the part of ballet technique concerned with dancing on the tips of fully extended feet.

BELLE DANCING

The dance emphasizes complex movements of the torso. At Z4 Dancing Network, one can learn Percussive movements, Fluid movements, Shimmies, shivers and vibrations by an expert in Belle Dancing.  The costume most commonly associated with Belle Dance is the ‘bedlah’ style, which typically includes a fitted top, a fitted hip belt, and a full-length skirt or harem pants.

Belle Dance is a non-impact, weight-bearing exercise and is thus suitable for all ages. Many of the moves involve isolation, which improves flexibility of the torso. Belly Dance moves are beneficial to the spine, as the full-body undulation moves lengthens (decompress) and strengthens the entire column of spinal and abdominal muscles in a gentle way.

Dancing with a veil can help build strength in the upper body, arm and shoulders. Playing the zills trains fingers to work independently and builds strength. The legs and long muscles of the back are strengthened by hip movements.

BHARATNATYAM

The dance style is noted for its fixed upper torso, legs bent or knees flexed out combined with spectacular footwork, a sophisticated vocabulary of sign language based on gestures of hands, eyes and face muscles. Accompanied by music and a singer, and typically her guru is present as the director and conductor of the performance and art. The dance has traditionally been a form of an interpretive narration of mythical legends and spiritual ideas from the Hindu texts. The performance repertoire of Bharatanatyam, like other classical dances, includes nrita (pure dance), nritya (solo expressive dance) and natya (group dramatic dance). In Z4 and in modern adaptations, Bharat natyam Dance may involve many dancers which play specific characters of a story, creatively choreographed to ease the interpretation and expand the experience by the audience.

KATHYAK

At Z4 Dancing Network, one can learn three main sections of Kathak – the invocation, one pure (abstract) dance recital and one expressive dance.

The invocation (vandana) consists of the dancer coming to stage and offering respect to his or her guru and the musicians on the stage. If the team is from the Hindu tradition, the dancer(s) combine facial expressions and hand gestures (mudra) to invoke Hindu gods and goddesses; while a Muslim performance replace the devotional expressions with salami (salutation).

The pure dance, nritta, while the expressive dance is called a nritya. Taught by a female teacher of International repute, the tempo doubles or quadruples.

ODISSI

At Z4 Dancing Network, one can learn to play out a mythical story, a spiritual message or devotional poem the experts, using symbolic costumes, body movement, abhinaya (expressions) and mudras(gestures and sign language) set out in ancient Sanskrit literature. Odissi is learnt and performed as a composite of basic dance motif called the Bhangas (symmetric body bends, stance). It involves lower (footwork), mid (torso) and upper (hand and head) as three sources of perfecting expression and audience engagement with geometric symmetry and rhythmic musical resonance. The dance includes invocation, nritta (pure dance), nritya (expressive dance), natya (dance drama) and moksha (dance climax connoting freedom of the soul and spiritual release).
